It's hilarious that he didn't even care that you took his picture while he was doing it.
It always amazes me that cats can drink from non fresh water sources like toilets, bird baths and fish ponds without getting sick. Weird. I guess I don't have to worry if I forget to change their water every day.
My cat has drunk from the toilet since I brought her home 12 years ago. At first I thought it was weird but she steadfastedly refused to drink from anything else -- trust me, we had the battle of the wills over this one. She won. I think she does it because the water gets changed every couple of hours and it's always cold (not to mention urine in and off itself is antibacterial). Okay, I mentioned it. Blech.
One of my cats sleeps in the exact center of our bed. If I move her at night, when I wake up in the morning she's back in the center again. I swear she knows how to measure!
I know, it's gross. But he was so sad, and so insistent that I went ahead and put the lid up for him. It's terrible.
If there were blue water I'd hold back, and he could just drink from the tub. I only have the blue water sometimes. Those pellets don't really seem to keep the bowl clean.
At my parents' house, the downstairs powder room is reserved for this cat, and the seat is always covered with his pawprints. Ick! That's why both seats are up in my house (and only temporarily).

You don't have the seat up FOR the cat do you? ;)
Heh heh. Love the look he's giving you in the first picture: "So? Whatta ya gonna do about it? Nothing? That's what I thought."
It's like Kujo Kat!
"Back away from the John if you know what's good for you!"
He's a very handsome kitty. I suppose leaving the seat down is not an option?
Sneak up on him and flush.

And with nary a care in the world, too. Meanwhile, we take great pains to disinfect our hands after the subway, and WE'RE the ones who get colds.
I'm still working on sending you the photos; I apologize. I'm having computer-crashing problems when I try to use those photo-sharing sites.
But does he flush? ;)
Good Lord, that is nasty. Everytime I see an animal do this, I have the need to not flush the toilet.

I forgot to mention: LOOK AT YOU AND YOU'RE ULTRA COOL BOOK COVER! So now we know what you're reading. Excellent work!
As you were...
Okay...drinking out of the toilet doesn't surprise me. But if you see one swimming...well that's another thing entirely.
Have you taught the cat how to clean the toilet for you? I have funny cats on my Freaks of Nature blog.
